DSPPA Museum 10th Anniversary Celebration
On the morning of May 30, the DSPPA Museum officially inaugurated its 10th Anniversary Celebration in conjunction with the Treasured Collections Exhibition. This landmark event represents an important milestone in the museum’s development trajectory.
The event was attended by an array of distinguished guests from government authorities, museum and cultural heritage institutions, and the cultural and arts sectors, who gathered to jointly witness this landmark celebratory occasion.
Guest Speeches, Opening Remarks
The celebration ceremony officially commenced in the morning. As the opening procedure, the host first acknowledged all distinguished guests and leading officials in attendance, and extended a warm welcome as well as sincere gratitude for their presence.
Ms. Li Li, former Director of the Propaganda Department of Liwan District, Guangzhou, currently Counselor of the Guangdong Provincial Government and Vice Chairperson of the Guangdong Association for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation, delivered the opening speech. She warmly congratulated the DSPPA Museum on its 10th anniversary, highly praised its contributions to Lingnan culture and historical heritage preservation, and expressed hopes that the museum would continue leveraging its platform to advance cultural education and cultural prosperity.
Subsequently, Mr. Wang Heng, Director of the DSPPA Museum, took the floor to deliver an address. In his speech, he looked back on the museum’s development journey over the past decade, and personally walked attending guests through the core highlights of the Treasured Collections Exhibition. He shared the historical backgrounds and curatorial insights behind the exhibits, leading guests to explore the profound depth of history and the unique charm of art.
Expert Lecture, Art Appreciation
Professor Yu Li of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts delivered a thematic art appreciation lecture at the event. The lecture centered on one of the exhibition’s core highlights: Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix, a twelve-panel gold-ground silk painting. Professor Yu conducted an in-depth analysis of the masterpiece’s painting techniques, artistic stylistic features and underlying cultural significance, enabling attending guests to develop a more profound comprehension of traditional Chinese painting art.
Craftsmanship Heritage, Intangible Light
Master Zhang Minhui — representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage ivory carving project, recipient of the State Council Special Government Allowance, and senior arts and crafts artist — presented the ivory carving exhibits at the exhibition. Drawing from his long-standing personal artistic practice, he vividly elaborated on the sophisticated craftsmanship and inherent cultural transmission value of this intangible heritage art form, giving guests a deeper insight into traditional Chinese craftsmanship.
Guests Viewing Ivory Carvings
As an important academic supporting program of the event, a series of themed academic forums were also organized, namely the Guangzhou Thirteen Hongs Repatriated Cultural Relics Seminar and the Thirteen Hongs Cultural Relics Research Exchange.
Experts and scholars from relevant professional fields gathered to conduct in-depth discussions on the historical and cultural significance of the Thirteen Hongs, as well as the systematic preservation and academic research of repatriated cultural relics. The forums built a professional exchange platform for participating scholars, and effectively promoted the in-depth research and inheritance of regional cultural heritage.
Exhibition Tour, Immersive Experience
Following the ceremony and academic sessions, guests were escorted on a guided tour of the exhibition halls by Museum Director Wang Heng. The group viewed a rich selection of exquisite ivory carvings, well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty lacquerware and other precious collections. During the tour, attendees engaged in in-depth exchanges on the exhibits and expressed sincere admiration for the consummate craftsmanship and profound cultural significance embodied in the collections.
